The Fashion Police

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Casually doing a bit of window shopping one or two years back in one of Italy’s ‘oh so fashionable’ small lane techniques, I realized that pointy toe stiletto’s were everywhere.

Glancing down at my round toe Mary Jane’s I’d just bought before leaving Australia, I was feeling both rebuffed and concerned. Rebuffed because I assumed pointy toe stilettos were grotesque, and concerned because I knew it was only a matter of time before I might be paying the lire to get them. The trend had gotten the best of me, notwithstanding how daft I looked when the heels got caught in the uneven Italian pavement each time I walked down the road (which was about each 3 steps). So what was it that modified my mind? I suspect the answer is found in the hands of, well, a few folks called ‘Trend Analysts’ AKA The Fashion Police.

Their job: to serve and protect the commercial interests of fashion firms across the world. How? By dissecting the general public’s psychology of what is going to be the subsequent trend will be by way of extensive travel and shopping expeditions (those bastards). These ‘trend analysts’ then report to research corporations, who then go on to consolidate their findings in industry magazines and internet sites for the utilization of fashion corporations. I want to assert that fashion corporations use research corporations because they’re lazy, but it is definitely not true. They are just frightened to make a mistake (are you able to imagine producing one thousand pairs of high wasted thin leg jeans only to find that everybody was going for low rise bootleg? EBay auctioning them isn’t a solution here). There are incredible time restrictions between the seasons.

So most designers design their range around what they are fed, and if they’re fortunate they get to go around Europe and Japan to buy garments to ‘take inspiration from’. This is the reason why we get a slight difference of the trend theme each season; all our designers are shopping in the same store in London. If you’d like to see something actually engaging, just look at the girls with cases in major department shops purchasing size 10 (when they’re size twelve) at the beginning of each season. Are you able to see we are by the hands of a conspiracy? I enjoin you to burn your pleather Fendi bags.

I am going to knit and extended version of the merkin (if you do not know what one is, I counsel you Google it because I am definitely not about to clarify). Yes, it will be a toasty winter for me craggy up in my black merkin cardigan. Which brings me back to my original thought at the start of this piece (merkins also have the power to bring folk back to what they were originally thinking)?

What was it that made me buy those pointy toe high heels I now so dearly cherish? I believe it boils down to one word: agreement. Agreement by trend researchers, agreement by industry mags, agreement by designers, agreement in fashion magazines, agreement across the stores, and eventually, agreement by you. Not necessarily bad, but inside the protection of agreement comes a dearth of creativity. And that’s the reason why we need those quirky fashion revolutionaries; so we are able to steel their ideas, produce them times 1,000,000, and sell the homogenized version back to you. Peculiar world we are living in isn’t it? Now where did I put my knitting needles and my merkin ‘wool’ supply?

Visit a Department Store and Be Amazed

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

I really like to shop as much as most of the women I know. I enjoy nothing less than an afternoon or a weekend with nothing on the agenda apart from to buy. However, as all busy people know, life seldom provides such a time. More frequently than not my shopping occurs in tiny segments of time between other errands and responsibilities.

During the past few years, shopping at an office store has become my best chum for this very reason. I like going to a dept store particularly when I’m in a rush because I am able to pick up just about anything I need in one stop. Whether I’m trying to find clothing, shoes, jewelry, makeup, or something for my home, the office store customarily has just what I require.

It is far easier for me to buy in one place that I know provides a range of excellent products. There’s nothing better than entering a dept store and then leaving it an hour later with my complete list accomplished. I also enjoy shopping at malls because often they’re very fair in cost. I don’t have the money to spend on unique stores and specialized shops all the time, so a dept store is sometimes a great alternative. I’m able to often find great name brand items at a tiny part of the regular cost. There are paths to make shopping more reasonable, particularly at department shops.

Another great thing about a dep. store is that I’m able to often find items for everybody in my folks, without regard for their ages or preferences.

It is a wonderful thing to be in a position to enter one store and come out with something for my grandmama, my pop, my hubby and my 3 years old child. I just move from dep. to office till I have achieved everything I need.

I will not begin to think about all of the time I save by just going to a dept store or 2 instead of to a specialty shop for all of the ages of people I should shop for. One of my favorite times of the year to make use of a dept store is the vacations. Shopping during the vacations is magical irrespective of what, but there’s no place quite as enchanting as a well-decorated dept store. Malls are typically crammed with great deals and specials based mostly on the quantity of cash you spend there. I encourage everybody to explore the probabilities that shopping at an office store offers.

See if you do not just fall completely in love with how simple, reasonable and fun it is.

That's my bag, baby!

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

I was out shopping with some pals last week and I had the strangest squabble. To take a look at the latest designer purses, and we are all raving over this fantastic new purse from Coach. If you have read any of my prior work, you would know that I’m Coach’s biggest fan. It had superb vintage styling, and was made from the best, most flexible caramel-colored leather. I was literally drooling over this purse, as were my fellow consumers.

As I was checking the bag and admiring the awesome multi-colored liner, I could sense that someone was peering over my shoulder. I turned around to find out another lady lusting after the purse I had in my hands. At about that point, I was both pissed off and scared. I was provoked by having a stranger attack my private space, and shocked by the demented and maniacal look in her eyes.

This woman looked like an addict waiting for her next fix. During the past, I wrote about my fight with being a designer purse addict. It was all in good humor and I did employ a specific amount of creative embellishment.

This lady, on the other hand, seemed as if she was going to attack me. Otherwise, I think we could have had a catfight on our hands. Of course, I made a hasty escape with my new coach purse. Later that evening, I sat at my PC to write some new copy for the site and I had a fairly tough time forgetting about this lady. It got me brooding about the bigger picture, regarding high end customer items like designer fashion accessories.

Why are folks so weirdly obsessive about trivial items? Why do we place such worth on inanimate objects? I’m often not one to think about designer purses and fashion accessories trivial, because I’m positively in love with them. But in the bigger picture that’s reality, these aren’t crucial matters.

Purses are simply something I’m inquisitive about, and write about for my web site. Sure, I have more bags than I could ever potentially put to use. But I’m much from being obsessed about them.

Online Shopping For Appliances

Monday, March 30th, 2009

The web is a good option for clients who are looking to buy appliances. From small appliances like toasters to massive appliances like chillers consumers can find a range of options open to them from online shops.

there are plenty of shops of appliances who sell appliances on the web. The bulk of these shops also have stores found in a selection of locations. the appliances are also offered online which makes buying these appliances even handier for the consumer. Some of the favored outlets of appliances include The Home Depot, Best Buy and Lowe’s. Though all these outlets have normal stores where purchasers can buy appliances, the stores also offer a range of appliances for sale online too.

Appliances for all elements of the home including chillers, stoves, dishwashers, washers, dryers, air conditions and heating systems can all be found on these and other internet sites. Clients who choose to buy an appliance online can have a number of selections open to them including having the product delivered or picking up the product from a store. Clients can use web sites offered by online shops for comparison shopping purposes even if they mean to make their purchase from a standard store. Normal stores which also have a web store generally offer the same products in their internet store which are available in the standard store. As a consequence customers can visit the web shops for many different stores to read the inventory available.

Clients can then print out info about the products on the market including the features and costs of the appliances and use these print outs to make comparisons of products. The choice to this technique of comparison shopping would be for the purchaser to go to all the local stores offering appliances and compile the info.

The data got will probably be precisely the same but the buyer will spend significantly more time comparison shopping at conventional stores than they’d on the web. This is particularly true if the stores are spread out and the purchaser has to travel a substantial distance to compile the data mandatory for comparison shopping. Special Considerations when buying Appliances on the internet.

There are some special concerns for buyers who wish to buy appliances on the web. Often one of the major benefits of web shopping is the power to buy at outlets found around the planet. when buying huge appliances there might be substantial shipping or delivery charges applicable to the acquisition. Another factor to punctiliously consider when buying appliances online is the measurements of the appliance. Most online outlets provide all the required measurements in the product outline. if all these measurements aren’t provided the customer should contact consumer service for the extra info.

This can help to make sure the appliance fits correctly in the available space. It’ll also help to stop the consumer from needing to return the appliance. This may be an expensive mistake because there will probably be a fee concerned with either having the appliance picked up or shipping the appliance back to the web outlets.
